More than 60 members of the Friends of Lowther Pavilion enjoyed the group’s first free cinema event in the Chapman Studio on 3 September
Members enjoyed the hit film Yesterday, directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis. Starring Himesh Patel, Lily James, Joel Fry, Ed Sheeran and Kate McKinnon, the film follows struggling musician Jack Malik, who wakes up to discover that he is apparently the only person in the world who remembers The Beatles.
The screening was arranged in conjunction with Lowther Pavilion and gave Friends members the chance to enjoy the Chapman Studio’s state-of-the-art DCP cinema projector, with complimentary tea, coffee and an ice cream during the event.
The projector is the Friends’ current fundraising priority. Although the new equipment has already been installed, the Friends are retrospectively contributing towards its £42,000 cost as a short-term fundraising project.
Supporting the projector is a particularly fitting project for the Friends, helping Lowther continue to offer high-quality cinema screenings alongside its live performance programme.
The event is part of the growing range of benefits available through Friends of Lowther Pavilion membership. Members have also recently enjoyed priority pre-sale access for Lord Botham, giving them the opportunity to book early and secure their preferred seats before tickets went on general sale.
Following the success of the first screening, a second Friends Christmas cinema event is being planned for 14 December, with further details to be announced nearer the time.
The Friends of Lowther Pavilion supports the theatre and helps fund projects and improvements, while also giving members access to special events and other benefits throughout the year.
